Two retired friends and companions returned to Ernesto Santalla PLLC to remodel a second condominium apartment. After first combining households in a two-story unit, they seized the opportunity to live on one level when a unit became available in their condominium building.

The new apartment had the same issues we previously encountered. It was cramped, dark and convoluted, and the finishes and materials were beyond their useful life. And, they were now used to a higher standard of design for their living space.

The renovation is geared to extend the amount of time it will be feasible to live independently, even indefinitely. Functionality is essential. The layout is simple. The circulation has been consolidated to one corridor that connects the front door to the kitchen and main room, passing alongside the bedrooms. The bathrooms are spacious and focus on safety. The finishes are easy to maintain.

Furnishings, art, area rugs and lighting from the first renovation were fully integrated, which renders the new apartment familiar and at the same time, new.
